VisualBloom's story

VisualBloom was created from love and lived experience of the many ways people communicate - especially those that can too often be overlooked or misunderstood.
At the heart of VisualBloom is our family. Within our own family, we support a range of neurodivergent needs and different communication profiles. One of our children is non-speaking, while another experiences periods when speaking can become incredibly difficult or unavailable.
Creating ~ Using ~Reviewing ~ Adapting ~ Refining
VisualBloom has grown from years of using visual supports in everyday life and developing, testing and refining the ideas that have now grown into the business. What began from a personal need has gradually developed into a purposeful range of visual resources, shaped by real experiences of what works, what needs adapting and what can make communication and everyday understanding more accessible.
Through those experiences, we've learned that communication is never a one-size-fits-all. What works for one person may not work for another, and meaningful communication doesn't have to look or sound a particular way - it can be spoken, visual, alternative, gestural or sometimes unspoken.
From a personal need to a purposeful dream - a journey of challenges, growth and unwavering determination.

What we do

VisualBloom creates practical visual resources to support communication, everyday understanding, routines, choices and independence. From communication folders and visual schedules to choice boards, topic boards and portable visual supports, our resources are designed to be useful in real everyday situations.
Why do we do it?

Visual supports can make information easier to recognise, process and refer back to without relying on words alone. For us, they have become part of everyday life - supporting communication, offering clear choices, helping build understanding and promoting independence.
The meaning behind VisualBloom

The name VisualBloom reflects our belief that, with the right support, people can grow and develop in ways that are individual to them at at a pace that is right for them.
Our logo brings together symbols with both universal and deeply personal meaning.
The eye represents visuals - recognising and valuing communication in all its forms.
The butterfly represents growth, development and transformation, while also holding a very special meaning within our family.
The brain and cogs within the butterfly wings represent the many different ways people think, process, learn and communicate - reflecting that no two minds work exactly the same way.
The green within our branding was chosen to represent something equally close to us - our families lived experience of Phelan Mc Dermid Syndrome.
Who VisualBloom is for

Although VisualBloom grew from our own family experiences, our resources are not designed around one diagnosis, age group or community. Visual supports can be useful for many different people and in many different settings, with individual needs and preferences always at the centre.
VisualBloom is ultimately about providing practical tools that can be adapted around the individual - in whatever way works for them.
